Nature as depicted in the Kalidasa's literature
" Man is a child of nature .Since the dawn of human civilization man has relationship with nature. "
Ancient human civilization was intimately related with nature. the seers beautifully depicted the picture of hermitages where people had a close relationship with natural elements . Nature gives some required elements for passing the boat of life smoothly. Nature plays a pivotal role in literary fields also. The Sanskrit literature is not differ from them. There are various writers in Sanskrit literature ,who describe the nature along with its beauty very nicely and lively. Besides these writers Kalidasa is a remarkable one. Many poets both Indian and Western have discussed nature very naturally , but kalidasa bring a typically Indian point of view in his writings . In his description nature appears as real as it is . So, he can be well regarded as a nature poet. If Kalidasa's poetic style is analysed , it is found that he does this in the most admirable manner. He avoids the artificial description of nature. He has always expressed himself against the background of nature. Each of his works particularly 'Meghaduta' and 'Ritusamhara' breathes of nature and it appears that nature has entered into his work 'Raghuvamsam' is written to describe the race of 'Raghu' ,but at the same time he does not forget to depict the beauty and the lovely sequences of nature.
in describing the journey of dilipa and his wife to the hermitage of vasistha , the whole path is described with various natural elements like wooden garden, deer , peacock , sarasa ,flowers etc. this beautiful description is only possible for the extraordinary imagination power of the great poet Kalidasa. Kalidasa's poetic excellence and naturalistic attitude is beautifully reflected in his famous work 'Meghaduta'. In the Meghaduta ', he uses 'Megha' (cloud) as a 'duta' (pieon) to carry the information of 'Yaska' to Janakatanaya' . At that time , he very beautifully describes the Indian Rivers, hills etc .which is seen by the 'Megha' . 'Ritusamhara ' isan another unique work of kalidasa with a vivid description of the changing of Indian seasons (Ritu) like sparing , autumn etc .Except all of these , his naturalistic attitude is again reflected in his famous creation ' Abhijnanamsakuntalam', which represents the crown of his genius. It is an evergreen drama of Sanskrit literature with Kalidasa's evergreen poetic style .In the 'Abhijnanamsakuntalam', He describes nature with the character of ' Sakuntala', in the drama depicted as a nature girl ,she has grown in her life with the natural elements. The trees ,creepers , birds and beasts are very closely connected with this nature girl.
she plays the role of a maiden in the drama who is engage herself to maintain the natural elements . she has also bestowed motherly care on the plants and trees by watering them in time and refuses to drink water without watering them At the time of leaving the hermitage , the deer dose not allow 'Sakuntala' to leave . From these description, it is prov ed that Kalidasa creates a very strong relationship between the human being and natural elements. So, we can undoubtedly accept that Kalidasa's poetic style as well as dramatic tralent are like the painter's art and sculpture's art transferred into letter he can successfully from a well balanced relation between human being and nature through his sweetable writings .This type of relationship is very necessary in the modern time . Modern human civilization does mistreatment with nature and as a result , it face various problems. if we can form such type of strong bond between nature and human being then the whole world will appear as evergreen world and it will be a good step to save nature.
